5th September 2009
WE ARE NOW OFFERING NVQs IN CHILDCARE
As of January 2009 we are recruiting learners for our new Childcare programme. We can offer Apprenticeships to 16 - 24 year olds, with those of 19-plus also being eligible for Train to Gain funding.
(The Apprenticeship consists of the NVQ Level 2, which involves some written work and some practical assessments, the Technical Certificate, which involves written work, plus Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number; with the Train to Gain course consisting of the NVQ Level 2 only.)
So, if you're working within the childcare industry, but with no formal qualifications, we should be able to help you, and it shouldn't cost you a penny. Alternatively, if you own or manage a nursery and have unqualified staff, we should be able to offer them free training.
And, if you would like to work in the childcare industry, but don't know how to go about starting, we should also be able to help.
Just call us on 01206 366199 or email mick@cattencollege.co.uk for further details or help.

20th June 2009
APPRENTICE WAGES RISING TO £95.00 PER WEEK AUGUST 2009
Workplace owners/managers, please be aware that, as of August 2009, you will be required to pay your apprentices a minimum of £95.00 per week, rather than the £80.00 you could have been paying them for the past few years.
The increase was announced in December 2008 by Skills Secretary John Denham and Children's Secretary Ed Balls, and followed a review of apprentices' pay carried out by the Department of Innovation, Universities & Skills and the Department for Children, Schools & Families.
The new pay rate will benefit an estimated 26,000 apprentices - around 10% of those currently in Apprenticeships, most of whom work in the traditionally less well paid sectors such as Hairdressing and Health & Social Care.
